DDoS, acronym for "Distributed Denial of Service," is a form of malicious cyber attack aimed at overwhelming a server, website, or application with a massive volume of malicious traffic. The goal is to make the service inaccessible by saturating its network resources, causing harmful downtime for legitimate users.

DDoS attacks are orchestrated using a network of compromised machines, often called a botnet, which acts in a coordinated manner to flood the target with malicious traffic. These attacks can seriously disrupt online operations, cause financial losses, and damage a company's reputation.
